Some people stayed because they couldn't afford to leave. If they had business they needed to run they couldn't leave. Some people stayed because they thought it was foolish to leave. They figured everything would end up being fine. I would not have stayed. I would have left the day the first person in my town was sick. If I had a business I most likely would have stayed but if I didn't I wouldn't.
Some of the people would have stayed because they have other obligations. People might have had businesses to run, so they couldn't leave. Other people might have thought it was just foolish to leave. They may have thought that if you were going to get the disease, then you were going to get it and there was nothing that you could do about it. I am not sure whether or not I would have gone. If I had children, I would probably have left with them. If, I had a business, then I would not have gone. I would have stayed and run my business. So, it depends on my other obligations on whether or not I wou;d have left.
I think some people stayed because they didn't have any money to travel, and you could travel on foot, but most peoplechoose not to. Another reason people might have stayed is that some of their family members might have been sick and they might have wanted to stay with them and comfort them.
I think that a lot of people stayed because of their buissnesses and also because a lot of them didn't have a lot of money so they couldn't leave. But also because the fever was most by the docks. I would have left because I wouldn't want to die or have my family die. I would have found some way to leave and I defently wouldn't have stayed there even if my life deepended on it.
I think people didn't want to leave there family members behind or there home behind because they might not have anywhere else to go. If one of my family members were sick i would stay, but if we all are healthy and leaving i would leave on the first day.
It is possible that people didn't leave because they had stores or shops, etc. to take care of. They probably didn't want to leave them. They probably didn't want to let all their food spoil. They couldn't let the food spoil. They also probably thought that they were safe in their homes. Also, the people of Philidelphia thought if they left they were more exposed to the Yellow Fever disease.
Some people might not be able to leave because of the money peoblem and because of the buinesses, and some of them thought that it wasn't needed to leave.
I think some people did not leave because they could not immagine that there was a wide spread disease knocking at there door. Also they might not have been able to afford to go to a new town to stay. Another reason people did not leave is because they might have family in there town. People also might not have had the transportation.
